Aqua, Mint Green - Obsessed!
Hello Everyone!
I am obsessed with the color Aqua (Mint, Tiffany Blue, Sea Green, etc) right now and any variation of it. It started out with me making a lot of bracelets with this color bead. Then it moved on to buying paint and painting random things and now this has become the accent color in my bedroom!
Here is a random picture I took. I am wearing one of my Hamza bracelets and noticed my nail polish is almost the exact color - yes, obsessed!
| Please ignore the chipped polish :) |
Color of the nail polish is SMUSH by Urban Outfitters
You can get the Hamza Bracelet in my shop - August Rose

Spring 2012 is here again!
My favorite time of the year! I am loving the bright jewelry trend and especially the layering! These are very lightweight so they are perfect for adding some style to your outfit because they will not weigh you down!
Coral has been one of my favorite color of beads to work with. Here is a picture of 2 of my layered bracelets paired together. (although, I am thinking of making this a full set!) I can wear these with anything! They seem to go with every outfit I wear (or at least I make them!)
I will share some more pieces through out the spring and summer. Plenty of necklaces will be made and of course, more layered bracelets & bracelets for stacking!

Current Favorites 1/20/2012
Hello Everyone!
I want to show some of my current favorite things I have been using lately. I haven't done one in a while so here it goes! These are in no particular order.
I want to show some of my current favorite things I have been using lately. I haven't done one in a while so here it goes! These are in no particular order.
First one is the Aveeno Clear Complexion Cleanser. I have some issues with my skin and I think this is one of the best cleansers I have used in a while. It is a foam cleanser but, feels very creamy when you rub it on your skin. It does contain 0.5% salicylic Acid.
The next thing is my MAC lipstick in MatteVelvet Teddy. I am not sure if I wrote about this before, but this is definitely my go-to lipstick. It can be a little too matte for me, so I usually add some type of gloss over it.
After that is my NYX Ultra Pearl Mania pigment. This is great as an eyeshadow, highlight, etc. I usually use this in my inner tear duct area to make my eyes pop a little. This was about $2.99 at Ulta and it goes a LONG way! It is still almost full and I have had it for about a year.
The last thing I love using is my Glamoflauge Concealer. This is a HEAVY DUTY concealer. I got mine in the color TAN. They have 3 colors and i believe mine is in the darkest shade available. I purchased mine at Walmart for about $6.00 and this is another product that goes a long way! A little dot of it on a blemish and some loose powder over does the trick to cover up almost anything. This has also been compared to that Kat Von D concealer. Although I have never tried hers, I will be sticking to this because of the affordable price.
Another item that I have been reaching for is my Chanel INSPIRED purse. This purse is by Ganson San Fransisco and I absolutely LOVE it. It has a long handle strap, a pocket inside and outside. It is real leather and has gold hardware. You will never guess that I found this gem at a THRIFT STORE. I totally fell in love with it the moment I saw it. I only paid $2.00 even though it is worth so much more. Did I mention is was brand new with tags? SCORE!
This is a tea my mother gave me. I am not sure about the price, but she did purchase it at World Market. It is sooo good! Especially for the season. It is the The Republic of Tea Holiday Spice Blend. It has a cinnamon and clove blend and it is a black tea. It also has apple and licorice hint in it. Really yummy! The tea pot was also given to me by my sister-in-law. Perfect for brewing some tea leaves!
This nail polish has been in my collection for some time now. I just love the color. It is almost a vintage pink. The name of it is Miso Happy with this Color by OPI. Although I usually wear darker colors on my nails, sometimes I like the softer colors and this is one of them!
The last thing of some of my favorites are these beautiful chains and beads I found. I LOVE chunky statement jewelry. I plan to make some pretty necklaces and bracelets out of these gems. I have made some already that you can check out --> CLICK HERE!
I hope everyone has enjoyed reading about some of my favorites and maybe I inspired you to try some new products. If you have any suggestions on something, please let me know! Thanks for reading!

Weigh Loss Resolutions Anyone?
Happy New Year everyone!
So I know a lot of people have made some weight loss New Years resolutions. I wanted to post this short blog on my journey, so far.
I want to just say that I started this because I just wasn't satisfied with the way I looked and I just needed to lose weight - plain and simple. So, I figured, it really is now or never to work towards the body that I really want.
I started 2 days after Christmas. I was originally going to start on January 1st, but I figured, why wait!? I got up and started walking around my neighborhood. Then a few days after walking I added in working out to some DVD's. I do some type of work out every single day.
There are times when I don't want to go walking or turn on that DVD. Sometimes I want to eat something not so healthy, but I have stuck to it. What makes me stick to it? Remembering my goal. MY GOAL.
In the past I would get in my work out zones because I might see someone I haven't in a long time or there was some type of an event to"look good" for. They were not true goals for myself. Whats different now is that I have this vision in my head of how I want to FEEL and look. I am doing this for ME!
So far in the last 3 weeks or so I have lost a total of 7 pounds and I have so much energy. I will be updating from time to time on my progress! Let me know if you have a similar resolution, but it is never too late to start living a healthier life!

Happy Halloween!! + UPDATE
Hi Everyone!
I hope you all are having a great Halloween. My night will be spent making some new jewelry and fixing some pictures of some I have already made. Hopefully within the next few days I will have some more items added to my shop! I think I will also have some popcorn and watch a scary movie. Anyway, I haven't been able to post because my computer has been going through some issues. Here is a little update:
Facebook.
I have not been able to view my facebook page from my computer. When I log on the screen is blank! So I have been logging on through my phone and other computers, but unfortunately, I have not been able to update as much as I would like to. I notified facebook and hopefully the problem will be fixed soon.
Twitter
I have been tweeting a bit more and hopefully it will become a habit to tweet daily. I don't just tweet about my jewelry either, i like to tweet about everything! If you have twitter - follow me!
Pintrest
You can follow my pins as well! I don't pin every day, but when I do pin I can stay online for HOURS! It is sooo addicting! I just love seeing all the fashion, beauty, and home decor tips there. It really makes me get into a creative zone.
My blog
I have not been able to blog too much. Starting today, I will be on it! I have a few ideas in mind that i want to do on certain days. I will be getting back into my Favorites and maybe I will change it to another day. So stay tuned!
Other then my social networking updates, I have been preparing for the holidays. I am gathering new items to decorate my packages in so they can be ready to give (and receive) as presents. I LOVE the holiday season! Just walking around, seeing the lights, trees, and what people are wearing makes me feel JOLLY :)
I will be having a holiday sale as well so make sure subscribe to my blog posts, facebook, or twitter so you won't miss it!

Saturday Weekly Favorites
Happy Saturday Everyone!
I wanted to do some sort of weekly thing on my blog and thought Favorites Saturday would be perfect! I am into beauty, fashion, and jewelry so I figured that every Friday I will post some favorite stuff I have been liking/using during that week. I know a lot of people post their monthly favorites, but I usually forget what I used or bought so weekly it is! Let's get started!
-----I have been LOVING (even though I am late on the bandwagon) is Aussie 3 minute miracle deep conditioner.
This stuff is sooo good! I use it every other time I wash my hair. It leaves my hair feeling super soft and it really does do it's job. They sell these everywhere, so I'm sure you will be able to find it. I really would believe the hype on this product because it is THAT good!
-----The next thing is this new nail polish from Night Prowl from Wet n' Wild.

-----The next thing is this new nail polish from Night Prowl from Wet n' Wild.
The pointer finger has 2 coats Night Prowl. The middle finger has 1 coat of black (Wet n' Wild Black) and 1 coat of Night Prowl and 1 coat clear top coat (Ulta brand). The ring finger has 1 coat black, 1 coat Night Prowl and 1 coat clear and the pinky finger has just 1 coat of Night Prowl.
As you can see you definitly need 2 coats of this polish.I think this is a perfect color for Fall/Winter. I usually wear black A LOT during these months so I thought it was a nice little change from it. Also this color is very comparable to China Glaze - Mummy May I. The sparkles in Mummy May I are a different purple and the base colors are different, but after a few coats of either, they pretty much look the same.
----Next is this clutch/purse I got at a Thrift store!
$2.00 at local Thrift Store
I like to go to thrift stores. You can really find some treasures at a thrift store if you look hard enough. I was actually on my way to the cash register when I saw this sitting all alone and I just knew that I had to have it! I plan on changing the straps to some chain type ones, but for now I can just take the straps off and use it as a clutch. It is perfect for a night out and very in style! The inside looks like it has never been used, which is a great bonus! I do wish the hardware was gold, but for $2.00 I am a happy shopper!
----The very last favorite for this week are these beautiful little trinkets I found.
The square ones have this studded look to them, also the pointer type ones are very edgy! I also found some really nice chains in gun metal, gold, and silver. I can not WAIT to get started on some jewelry using these. Let's see what I come up with on August Rose!!!
So thank you for reading this! I think I am going to like doing these Weekly Favorites! I am still thinking of other "themes" I can do on this blog, hopefully next week I will have some more! Have a great weekend everyone!

Waves without the heat!
Now that Fall is here, it's time to give your hair a break from all the heat! So here is something I do when I want some wave in my hair, but don't feel like dealing with all those hot tools!
What you will need: mousse, hairspray, bobby pins (at least 10), and a shower cap (optional)
Step 1: apply mousse (or gel). Depending on how long your hair is, use a dime size to a quarter. You don't want to use too much because you want soft waves.
Step 2: Take small sections of your hair and wrap it around your finger and pin with a bobby pin it so it stays - place these anywhere you want some waves. The smaller the section of hair, the curlier it is most likely to get.
Step 3: When you have your whole head sectioned and pinned, spray with hairspray.
Step 4 (optional): Cover your entire hair with shower cap. *this may prolong the drying time. If you have time then do this so you do not ruin your pinned curls*
Step 5: Let your hair air dry! The dryer your hair, the more your waves will stay.
Step 6: Take out all your bobby pins - Don't Brush! Use your fingers to comb through your hair
Step 7: Scrunch your hair with a little mouse - you don't want too much because then your hair will become hard. A nickle size be fine.
Step 8: Style as desired :) - Remember - Do not brush, comb through with fingers.
Thanks for reading! You can find the coral earrings like this at - August Rose.

I hope this little tip helped with staying away from the heat. Since my hair is pretty long, I always try to avoid using any heat on my hair. This way of doing my hair leaves my hair with soft, manageable and natural looking waves.

Treasury on Etsy
The other day I decided to curate my first treasury on Etsy. If you are wondering what they are, they are pretty much little collections of things you find on Etsy from different shops all gathered in one section - your treasury. For example, if you are shopping around for a wedding and Halloween, you would shop around and add an item to your certain treasury so you can have a spot to go back to and keep them organized. They can be made for personal use or made for other people to browse around. If your a shop owner, it can also be used as a possible way for your shop to be noticed if your treasury gets picked to be on the Etsy home page. The only rule is that is has to be cohesive, pretty, and you can not add an item from your own shop.
So I made a treasury inspired by a hat! It is beautiful. I saw the hat and immediately thought of wedding, then I saw the dress and instantly thought of - Autumn! So here it is!

Layered Chain Necklace!
I love looking at high end jewelry and getting some inspiration for my own pieces. The other day I was looking on the Chanel website (drooling at it is more like it) and saw this necklace (below) from the 2011 collection and I loved it! So of course that inspired me to create my own chain necklaces. I have been making some that I think will be perfect to wear in the upcoming fall & winter months! I made two so far and I will definitely be making more! I just love the look of long layered chain necklaces with a blazer or cardigan. Great for a night out or to wear to lunch!
You can really see all the details of the Chanel necklace on the website, it really is a beauty!
Below is my August Rose chain necklace, of course, a lot more affordable and just as fabulous!
I will be posting more through out the season so keep a look out! :)

Fall/Winter 2011 Jewelry Trends!
I LOVE fall & winter. I can't wait until I can throw on my boots, scarves, and jackets and sip on hot chocolate in front of the fire, but most importantly I can't wait to start wearing this seasons Jewelry trends! So I wanted to give a little guide on what is in the seasons to come! So what is in? Lets start!
Feathers! They will definitely make their way from summer into fall/winter months. Instead of the simple boho style they will now be embellished with rhinestones, jewels, and have a much more elegant look. They will also be found on hats, purses, belts, etc.
Mixing Metals! This has really been a huge thing to do throughout summer and it wont stop in the seasons to come. Mixing gold with silver, bronze with antique gold, silver with black, and any other colors of metal together will work. A lot of jewelry already has some mixed metals in it, but don't be afraid to mix that gold bracelet with those silver earrings this season!
Bold Chains! Big bold chain necklaces are back! You can find them with pendants, jewels or anything else to make them stand out and look glamorous. Just make sure they make a statement!
Ornamented Necklaces! These are the necklaces that have a lot of different pieces to them and cover your whole neck. The options are endless and really up to you on what style to wear. As long as it covers the whole neck line, you will definitely be in!
Tribal! The tribal & natural look is in for jewelry. Pieces like Native American & African inspired designs used in your chunky necklaces will totally stand out. Also the colors and designs will be a hit like turquoise, onyx, & agates into your earrings and bracelets will be hot this season.
Bold & Layered Bracelets! Any thick & heavy embellished bracelet will work. You can also layer different textured bracelets for an outfit. Such as some leather bracelets mixed in with your rhinestone silver charm ones!
Some other elements to throw into your jewelry wardrobe would be leopard and animal print, jewelry with buckles, high drama necklaces, bold rings, extra long earrings, tangled necklaces, crystal white jewelry, dark "Gothic" style pieces, purple, and gold jewelry will be hot for the seasons to come.
I hope these tips helped you out for this fall/winter. Don't forget that jewelry & fashion is an expression of YOU! Wear what makes you happy. Trends are to be made, not always followed! If you are a fashionista or just want to experiment with some new trends then throw on your bold necklace, extra long earrings, or layered bracelets and have fun!
As always, you can find some original & always trendy pieces at August Rose

Cooking with August Rose! :)
As some of you know, I LOVE to cook! I just realized it may be a good idea to post some of my cooking trials and errors here! Why not? This is my blog. It is mainly about my accessory line, but its also a look into other passions and hobbies of mine! I will also be doing some reviews on recipes I try at the end.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT a chef or professional cook. I am just a person who likes to cook and share my cooking experiences!
So anyway, today I got a few recipes from a couple websites and decided to try them out. I first made Safiha صفيحة (Lentil Pizza) I found this recipe on the Arabic Bites website. I wanted to try it because I had all the ingredients and also because the lentil recipe was so similar to another dish I have made called Muhadarra مجدرة . So here it goes:
First you will need to make your dough.
2 tsp yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 1/3 cup warm watter
1 1/2 cup white flour (all purpose)
1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup olive oil (I used extra virgin)
You will mix all the dry ingredients first, then add the wet. Once you have it all mixed you must knead the dough for about 5 minutes (Click here to learn how to knead) Then after that you will take a large bowl, grease it (I greased it with a little more olive oil), place your dough in it, cover with plastic wrap and let it sit for 1 hour.
While the dough is rising you can start on the lentils!
1 tsp olive oil (again I used extra virgin)
3/4 cup brown lentils
2 small onions (I used a little more then half yellow)
2 cloves garlic (I used 3)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp Arabic spices (I used Sadaf 7 spices which is a mix of allspice, blk pepper, coriander, cloves, cumin, nutmeg, and other spices)
2 tsp salt
1 zucchini chopped small
2 tbls tomato paste
2 large tomatoes
So you will begin to saute the onion, garlic, lentils, in about a teaspoon of olive oil. Then add the zucchini, and tomatoes. I added about 3 cups water then the paste & seasonings. I let it simmer for about 45 minutes to let the lentils soften.
Once that is all done, preheat your oven to 400 degrees and grease a flat baking sheet.
Now get the dough, take out a small chunk (bout the size of a golf ball) and roll it out, flat. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the lentil mixture on top and bake for about 15 minutes or until the dough turnes golden brown. Viola! Let them cool for a few minutes and start eating! :)
REVIEW: Everything was pretty good. If you like lentils, you will like this! The dough wasn't anything spectacular, but I did like the texture. Although the spices were bold, the whole flavor was pretty mellow. Don't let the name fool you, it is nothing like italian pizza! I would say give it a try, its pretty healthy, cheap to make, and all in all, satisfying! Enjoy!

While your enjoying your Safiha, shop August Rose!
Next up I will be making a roasted chicken dish! Stay posted!

You can browse a numerous amount of items, handmade, vintage, or even some supplies. Although, I LOVE to browse the Jewelry, August Rose, cough cough :)
Once you find an item you like, click on the thumbnail (if you haven't already) and read the description, price, shipping cost, and you may be able to see more pictures.
Once you've decided that you MUST have the item for you or someone else, click on the green ADD TO CART button on the upper right side. You can continue to browse more items or just go to your cart if you want to buy that one item by clicking the CART button on the upper right side.
Once you are in your cart, items you purchased are grouped by the shop you are buying from.
Before you buy, this is your chance to change a few details on the item, such as a
Note: You can mention it is for a birthday, maybe the seller (like me) will add a little card with your item from you. You can mention size, is resizing an option?, let them know! You can also mention you would like your item shipped a certain day. Most notes are meant to personalize your item and make sure the item is delivered the way you request (granted that the seller offered)

Move to Favorites: This option lets you put an item to the side so you can buy at a later date.
Contact Shop: This option will let you send a personal message to the shop owner about any questions you may have about the item. This will open a new "convo" to the shop keeper.
Remove: You can always remove an item from your cart if you have had a change of heart :(
Once all that is filled out and to your liking whats next will determine your payment method.
Paying with debit/credit card: To proceed, click the Check out with PayPal button. You will be taken to a page on PayPal. Look for a link on the bottom that says Don't have a paypal account? Youtube Promotional Video
Happy Monday Everyone!
So today I decided to make a promotional video on YouTube. Why not make another way for AUGUST ROSE to be seen?? I didn't realize how much time and energy can go into making a 2 minute video. It might have something to do with my slow computer and lack of IMOVIE skills, but I managed it and so far, I am happy with the outcome.
In the video there are pictures of some items available and also a few websites to view everything else. There is also the Adele version of Love Song, originally by The Cure playing throughout. I love that song. I think it is beautifully sung by Adele, that woman can sing anything! I think I will be making some more promotional videos every now & then just to give an update on my shop. They are fun to make and I hope they are just as much fun to watch!
So here it is. Please take a look and enjoy!

The curse of the EVIL EYE!
Have you ever been walking down the street and someone stares at you in a weird way for just a few seconds too long and gave you that uneasy feeling? Have you ever received a compliment from someone and you just know they are not sincere? Well that may be because you have been struck by the EVIL EYE!
The evil eye also known as the ʿayn al-ḥaʿayn al-hasud (عين الحسود)" which translates into "the bad eye" is an intentional/unintentional look that is believed by many cultures around the world, mainly in the middle east, is to be able to cause sickness or bad luck for the person at whom it is directed to. These reasons are most commonly envy or jealousy.
It is known that by wearing an evil eye as a necklace, bracelet, pendant, or any other trinkets can ward off these unintentional "curses." They will attract the evil eye before it can damage the person that it is directed to. So the evil eye beads in jewelry are not actually evil, they are meant to protect and to bring good luck and fortune to the person who wears it.
So go get yourself an evil eye! You are also in luck because I have them at my shop! (so convenient!)

Wedding Bells are ringing!
So today I was asked by a very good friend of mine to create some earrings she can wear on her wedding day! I LOVE weddings and I am so happy for her. She is having a wedding in about 2 months so I have plenty of time to make her that perfect pair to go with her dress.
It is very exciting to know that the earrings she will be wearing will be created by ME! They will be in her pictures, her memories, and a part of her special day. It is a bit overwhelming since I will be creating something from scratch, but I could not be more happy to do it. Her colors will be eggplant and ivory and I know I will create something classy, elegant, and unique!
So look out for what I will be coming up with and who knows, maybe this will inspire me to create an August Rose Bridal line ;)
